SACRED HEART CONVENT
in the Heart of the City
In the center of Danang in Vietnam is a convent maintained by the Sister of St. Paul of Chartres. However, it is more than a convent, it is a mission of charity which services the needs of the urban community and cares for both children and elderly alike.
Although the sisters are well-established in their missionary work in Vietnam they have gone through many years of hardship only to have their work finally realized by the new socialist government. After the turbulance of the after-war years the work of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres is finally realized, appreciated and permitted to continue.

Danang, Vietnam
Sister Teresia, a Vietnamese sister who has studied nursing in the Philippines, has worked at the convent since 1975. She is eager to greet visitors and is willing to explain the various programs set up at the convent to help the children, handicapped and orphaned.
On the spacious grounds of the convent which is located next to the Danang Cathedral the is a kindergarten for pre-school children, a school for the handicapped and an orphanage. The mission work of the sisters, however, extends beyond the borders of the convent and goes out to the poor and elderly in the community as well as poor patients in the hospitals.
Presently at the convent there are 60 sisters engaged in the running of the charities and about 100 professional lay assistants who help them in their work.
