FACT: Approximately 1,500 children, ages 14 and under, are treated annually in hospital emergency rooms for unintentional firearm-related injuries.

FACT: Nine times as many children die from unintentional firearm-related injuries in the US than in the next 25 industrialized countries combined.

FACT: Most unintentional firearm-related deaths among children occur in or around the home; 50 percent at the home of the victim, and 40 percent at the home of a friend or relative.

FACT: As many as 80 percent of first and second graders know where their parents' gun is kept.

FACT: Jon Binet Ramsey was murdered in her own home while her parents and brother slept.


The thought of an intruder gaining entrance to our homes as we sleep is probably one of the most disturbing fears in the world.

It's no longer just a matter of leaving a night light on, it's a matter of home and personal protection. How can you protect yourselves and your children?

You watch everyday on the news and you read about it everyday in the newspaper all those cases where the doors were obviously locked and the intruder entered by forcing his way into the home.

How do you protect yourselves, how do you educate yourself and how do you comfort your children? More important how do you get out of the habit of thinking it will never happen to you or your children?

If someone broke into your home, would you know what to do?

There is no warning or sound. Someone has broken in and within seconds, he is in your bedroom, staring down at you while you are asleep.

You wake to a nightmare because you are about to be attacked.

Would you know what to do if the worst was already happening?

FACT: most Home Invasions occur at night. Your typical burglary of the home is done during the day when you are not at home, mostly when people are at work.


A burglar is a thief. What does a thief do? He merely takes away something that belongs to you without you being aware of it. A burglar enters your house illegally and takes away things that he is interested in. He plans meticulously and takes care not to be seen. Most of the time a burglar is someone who may be addicted to drugs so he will steal from you and pawn the stolen objects for money to support his or her habit. Of course they don't want to be caught because then they wouldn't have the freedom of using their illegal substance.

Now the opposite side of the coin is the Home Invasion. A home invasion usually will occur while you are home asleep, usually late night or early morning hours. The invader isn't interested in robbing you; the invader wants the thrill of being in your home while you are there. Usually the goal in mind for the Home Invader is to look at you while you are asleep, or rape and kill you. This is a thrill or adrenaline driven crime.

FACT: Home invasions are unpredictable, scary, and violent. They are becoming one of the fastest growing crimes in America today.
